The island of Milos is not only known for its stunning landscapes and crystal-clear waters but also as the discovery site of one of the world's most famous ancient sculptures, the Venus of Milos. This iconic statue, also known as Aphrodite of Milos, was unearthed on the island in 1820 and has since captivated art lovers and historians alike.

The Discovery

The Venus of Milos was discovered by a local farmer, Yorgos Kentrotas, in the ancient ruins of Milos. French naval officer Olivier Voutier recognized the statue's significance and helped facilitate its acquisition by the Louvre Museum in Paris, where it remains on display to this day.
